Cozy. That’s the theme of pretty much everything right now – from wardrobe to activity to (most definitely) food! And nothing says remedy to chilly weather better than a delicious drink that’s warming from the inside out. So, grab your favorite mug, and try these superfood renditions of holiday favorites to enjoy the seasonal glow!
Hot Chocolate
Nix the premade hot cocoa powder and upgrade your hot chocolate by drinking it the Mayan way: with real, raw cacao! Simply mix cacao with your sweetener of choice, and whisk it into warm milk – nutmilks like cashew and hazelnut milk make this this drink especially enchanting. In addition to cacao powder, superfoods like maca powder, lucuma powder, and sweet or peppery spices are also exciting flavor and benefit twists on the classic cuppa’ chocolate. We have many superfood hot chocolate recipes in our cacao recipe section, including the one that I make for my family every year.
Eggnog
I’ll tell you the secret of my healthier eggnog: lucuma powder. Yes, a lucuma eggnog! As a low sugar fruit, lucuma helps sweeten this drink while adding a maple-like creamy flavor that’s irresistible. Additionally, creamy cashews are turned into a luxurious milk that spiced with nutmeg and vanilla, sweetened with a little coconut sugar, thickened with chia, and of course spiked with brandy and rum. Still a treat, but a much better one than the classic recipe for sure! Looking for something a little lighter (and maybe more morning-friendly)? Try a deliciously frothy lucuma latte instead.
Hot Apple Cider
Apple cider is synonymous with winter weather: naturally sweet seasonal fruit heated to peak warmness, and amped up with festive spices. There’s a couple ways to create a superfood-boosted cider – the first is adding in superfood powders like maqui berry or camu to the cider after its been heated: this Spiced Camu Cider is a great simple version of this concept. Alternately, you can take a green juice that has a base of apples or pears and gently warm it. This creates a “green cider” that is exceptionally healthy with its vegetable rewards, while still offering plenty of cider-esque cheer.
