You know the feeling. It’s an epic warm weekend evening at home. Dinner is finished, dishes are cleared, and you’re in your favorite grungy t-shirt. Everything is perfect except…what’s that feeling…ah! You need a little sweet night-cap. You remember the half-eaten ice cream in your fridge, grab a spoon, and dive in happily. But something’s still off. It needs … oh my yes it needs hot fudge sauce. If only you had some!
If only.
Hot Fudge Sauce
Enjoy the bliss of silky chocolate sauce anytime with this quick homemade superfood version. Drizzle over ice cream, fresh fruit, oatmeal, and desserts.
Makes 2/3 cup
4 tablespoons coconut oil
1/3 cup maple syrup
3 tablespoons cacao powder
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Over low heat, melt the coconut oil in a small saucepan until fully liquid and warm.
If you have a personal-size/small blender, simply blend all the ingredients together until smooth. Alternately, first whisk together the syrup, cacao powder and vanilla until fully combined. Then add the warm coconut oil and whisk vigorously to fully emulsify the ingredients.
Chocolate sauce may be stored in the refrigerator where it will become more solidified, and reaheated over low heat as desired. To keep the sauce liquid at all times, a liquid coconut oil (sold at natural food stores) may be used in place of regular coconut oil.
